Brazilian productions are gaining recognition in the US, France and Germany – at festivals and critics' awards;The film is still competing at the Oscars, BAFTAs and other important events
Since its international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2025, Secret Agent has won awards,A collection of nominations and accolades. Awards,The recognition of festivals and international critics' associations confirms the strength of the film beyond Brazil's borders.According to the film's producer Cinemascope, it has won 65 awards worldwide to date.
Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Wagner Moura, the film won major awards during its run, including two at the Golden Globes (out of three nominations) and one at the Critics' Choice Awards – both events considered Oscar thermometers.
Secret Agent is competing at the 2026 Oscars, the industry's biggest award, in four categories: Best International Film, Best Actor (with Moura), Best Actor (Newcomer) and Best Picture.The award ceremony will take place on March 15 in Los Angeles.
So far, the film has already been praised at festivals in the USA, Chile, Peru, Mexico, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and China, among others - plus of course in Brazil, for example at the APCA and ACCRJ awards.
The successful journey began in Cannes.In addition to winning the Secret Agent, Best Actor and Best Director categories at the traditional French festival, he was also awarded the FIPRESCI Awards by international critics and the "Art et Essai" awards by independent participants in France.
Later, Wagner Moura was chosen as Best Actor by the New York Film Critics Circle and presented the award for Best International Film for The Secret Agent.Mendonça Filho won the award for Best Latin Film and TV Director at the Cinema and Television Critics' Choice Awards.
