Difficulty finding the bodies puts the deal at risk and puts pressure on Hamas

The extremist group admitted it had difficulty finding the bodies of Israeli hostages among the rubble in the Gaza Strip.

It is difficult to find a body that will abide by the agreement at the risk of putting pressure on Hamas

Extremist groups admit that it will be difficult to find the bodies of Israeli hostages in the rubble of the Gaza Strip

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas faced new tensions last week, after the extremist group admitted difficulties in locating and removing the bodies of Israeli hostages from the rubble in the Gaza Strip. The hostage exchange is part of the first phase of the plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The peace agreement was brokered by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and mainly the United States.

- A ceasefire was reached this week between Israel and Hamas, brokered by the United States, Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye.

- the first phase of the agreement provides for the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

- US President Donald Trump said a second phase was being considered, but he did not provide details of the plan.

Last Wednesday (October 15), Hamas reported that it had handed over the bodies of all the Israeli hostages kidnapped on October 23, 2023, which were executed.

However, the group admitted that it was only able to return the bodies it was able to locate in the Gaza Strip.Since Friday (October 17), Hamas has transferred the bodies of nine of the 28 hostages killed in Gaza and freed all 20 living hostages.

The delay in returning the bodies prompted Israel to accuse Hamas of violating the agreement.

Mutual accusations of violations and coercion raise doubts about the maintenance of the ceasefire.

US President Donald Trump has been threatening the group since he stepped in as a mediator. He said last Thursday (10/16) that if Hamas continues to kill people in the Gaza Strip, "it will have no choice but to go in and kill them."

“If Hamas continues to kill people in Gaza, which is not the agreement, we have no choice but to come and kill them,” Trump said.

According to Hamas, "recognizing and removing them will require great effort and special equipment" and they are "committed to the complete closure of this documentation".

Is the truce as a threat?

João Miragaya, master of history from Tel-Aviv University, adviser to the Brazil-Israel Institute and member of the Do Lado Esquerdo do Muro podcast, told Metrópole that the chances of the war resuming are slim.According to him, one of the reasons is the actions of the President of the United States.

For Miragaya, the Trump administration cannot support the continuation of the war because it "would go against the demands of its allies in the Middle East, which are Qatar, Turkey and Egypt."The countries, in cooperation with the United States, were the main mediators in achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Trump is different, Titorlo is not open at this time, returning to fight into feather.

Push for the next step in the ceasefire

This Friday (17/10), Hamas released a statement thanking those who will bring people together with Egypt to help Israel comply with the other measures.

The note called for continued efforts to meet the proposed conditions, including the flow of humanitarian aid, the reopening of the Rafah crossing and the immediate start of reconstruction in Gaza, including housing, hospitals, schools and public services.
